CCM LOCAL GROUPS

Organizations along the proposed MSTI routes have worked together to form a non-partisan, statewide watchdog organization to support citizen involvement in promoting responsible and innovative energy solutions. Concerned Citizens Montana (CCM) will coordinate continuing efforts of Save Scenic Jefferson Valley Coalition (greater Whitehall), MoveMSTI (greater Butte), Stop the Grid (Townsend area), Friends of Southwest Montana (Twin Bridges and Madison County), and Keep it Rural (Dillon area). The organization will serve as a clearinghouse for public information, and will unite citizen efforts and resources to ensure NorthWestern Energy Corporation, state/federal agencies, and elected officials are representing sound energy policies that are in the best interest of Montanans. CCM currently has approximately 3,000 supporters representing diverse concerns, including ranching, small business, tourism, education, natural resources, government, recreation, real estate, public health and safety, and energy policy.

CCM STRATEGY & GOALS

"Citizens Protecting Montana's Unique and Important Lifestyle"

CCM Mission Statement

Concerned Citizens Montana supports citizen involvement in promoting responsible and innovative energy solutions that include protection of private property rights and the human environment. Through these efforts we seek to maintain Montana’s unique and important lifestyle.

Concerned Citizens Montana's Strategic Plan

Goal 1: Educate the public about the impacts of the Mountain StatesTransmission Intertie (MSTI), eminent domain, and present alternative energy policy directions.

  • Utilize expert resources on issues such as agriculture, energy, health, geosciences, wildlife, and economics.

  • Work with the grass roots organizations of the five Montana counties impacted by MSTI.

  • Help to ensure a mapped route satisfies affected land owners.

Goal 2: Work with legal counsel regarding MSTI impacts/planning processes.

  • Retain Peter Scott (Montana) and Karen Budd-Falen (Wyoming) as legal counsels.

  • Work with local governments to gain legal standing in the Major Facility Siting Act process.

  • Monitor state-wide issues that pertain to impacts of MSTI and participate in the legal proceedings.

Goal 3: Contribute to the shaping of Montana Energy Policy.

  • Engage state-wide organizations that work with aspects of energy policy.

  • Interface with state politicians on energy policy.

  • Develop legislation that deals with energy/transmission/Major Facility Siting Act.
